Bicentennial Design
If you’ve found a 1776 to 1976 quarter (a Bicentennial quarter) in your pocket change, then you probably want to know what it’s worth and if it’s a rare coin or not. I’ll tell you what these are worth: a 1976 quarter with no mintmark, a 1976 D quarter, and a 1976 S quarter. To celebrate the nation's Bicentennial, the reverses of the quarter dollar, as well as Kennedy half dollar and Eisenhower dollar, were changed for the dual-dated coins (1776-1976). The 1776-1976 quarter with no mint mark and the 1776-1976 D quarter are each worth around $1.25 in uncirculated condition with an MS 63 grade. The value is around $6 in uncirculated condition with an MS 65 grade. The 1776-1976 S proof. If you’re taking quarters as a denomination (and looking beyond simply the Washington quarters made since 1932), then there are several dates considered rare. In fact, taking into consideration every design series of the quarter going back to the very first, made in 1796, there are easily 2 dozen dates that could be considered highly scarce.
What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
The bicentennial Washington quarter features a 1776-1976 date on the obverse and a colonial drummer on the reverse of the coin to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the United States of America. This coin was produced in both years of 1975 through 1976 so there were no 1975 coins.
