Battlestar Galactica Pokies
Battlestar Galactica Pokies Online In tradition of releasing blockbuster epic slots, Microgaming has done it again with the thrilling Battlestar Galactica pokies real money game. This of course is based on the critically acclaimed science fiction drama, set in outer space where all the popular characters fight to survive fleeing the cylon enemies.
Battlestar Galactica Pokies is a licensed poker machine taken from the second of two series by that name, which aired on Syfy Channel in the USA first as a mini-series (2003) and a full series (2004-2008). The December 2012 release from Microgaming features 5 reels and 243 ways to win. The poker machine provides most of the features pokies lovers want these days, including free spins, scatters, wilds, a bonus round, instant play options, and a video slots set-up.
Player achievements are an important aspect of this game, with punters able to advance their career from civilian to admiral. The multi-faceted video slots game offers 243 ways to win, along with pictures of all your favourite characters from the 2004 television show. Reel symbols include memorable characters like Number Six and Colonel Tigh (my favourite).
The Battlestar Galactica poker machines are based on two popular American TV shows, one from the 1970’s and another from the 2000’s (which was a “re-imagining”). Both TV series involved a ragtag band of starships whose home world had been destroyed by a race of homicidal robots named the Cylons.
In either case, the humanoid crew of the main warship, called a “battlestar”, tried to protect a space fleet from raids while trying to find the mythical home world of humanity, Earth. When the original show first aired, 20th Century Fox sued Universal Studios, claiming Battlestar Galactica stole 34 distinct ideas from the movie Star Wars. Universal counter-sued, claiming 20th Century Fox had stolen ideas from a 1972 film (Silent Running) and the old Buck Rogers serials from the 1930’s.
In the original series (by Glen A. Larsen), the stars of the show were Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch, and Dirk Benedict, who played the respective roles of Commander Adama, Captain Apollo, and Lieutenant Starbuck. The later series was more of an ensemble cast, but characters named Adama, Apollo, and Starbuck returned in different incarnations, this time played by Edward James Olmos, Jamie Bamber, and Katie Sackhoff (Starbuck was a woman this time).
Richard Hatch returned to play Tom Zarek, a radical politician. Cylons could take on the appearance of humans in this series, while Dr. Gaius Baltar took on a much more important role. Overall, the second series (written by Ronald D. Moore) was much more “realistic” and gritty, yet both were successes in their own way.
The Osbournes Pokies
The Osbournes Pokies is based on a popular American reality TV show featuring Ozzy Osbourne and his family, which ran from 2002 to 2005. The theme song featured a rendition of Ozzy’s world famous Crazy Train, as sung by old-fashioned American pop singer Pat Boone. The show made celebrities out of previously little-known Osbourne family members: Sharon, Kelly, and Jack. Sharon Osbourne went on to host her own talk show in America, while also co-hosting America’s Got Talent in the US and X-Factor in the United Kingdom. Kelly Osbourne started her own singing career, while presenting his own TV shows, such as Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie and Saving Planet Earth (a BBC show). The family was known for their antics on the show, while Ozzy seemed to be almost incoherent at times.
The licensed poker machine features 5 reels and 20 paylines, along with scatter symbols, free spins, and a bonus round. On Mini’s Free Spin Trial Bonus, you can win up to 300,000 coins. A Knock Knock Bonus Game also exists on the Osbournes.
More Licensed Slots
Most of the other licensed poker machines by Microgaming include film licenses, sports themed games, and a few comic book characters. A handful of other titles take inspiration from famous television genres of the past or the very concept of watching television and becoming a couch potato.
Immortal Romance Pokies
Immortal Romance isn’t a licensed poker machine like Battlestar Galactica or The Osbournes, but it takes its concept from vampire romance novels, films, and TV shows. People who love the HBO program True Blood or the WB Network’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer are likely to enjoy Immortal Romance Pokies.
The characters from the reel icons look more like characters from True Blood than the Twilight movies, if you’re concerned about that. The December 2011 release from Microgaming includes 5 reels, wild symbols, and free spins.
Bar Bar Black Sheep
Bar Bar Black Sheep is more a reference to the famous line from the nursery rhyme than any TV show, but one might be reminded of the 1976 American television show Baa Baa Black Sheep, which was syndicated as Black Sheep Squadron.
The show presented a fictionalized version of World War II exploits of the Pappy Boyington’s famous Black Sheep Squadron, which fought anywhere the U.S. Marine Corps fought against the Japanese. Bar Bar Black Sheep is a 3 reel, 1 payline game with a wild symbol, video slots features, and max jackpot of 1,600 coins.
Couch Potato Pokies

Couch Potato takes inspiration from sitting in front of a television set all night, every night. The game is a 3-reel classic with 3 wild symbols and a 15,000 max jackpot.

Those who want more TV show themed online poker machines should read this site’s article on game show themed pokies. Each of those virtual gaming machines would qualify for this list, too. One example of what we’re talking about is the Deal Or No Deal Pokies game. Once again, some of the titles are going to be knock-offs of real TV programs, but not the official gaming machine for a trademarked show of the past.
