- The year has gotten off to a good start for Darren Elias. The American poker pro just won the first GGPoker Super MILLION$ of 2021, defeating some of the world’s best poker pros. Elias survived a thrilling heads-up battle against Swedish poker pro Niklas Astedt who was ahead by a large margin when the one-on-one match got underway.

A poker career comprised of live cashes totaling $37,745 was apparently not good enough for Shannon Soroka, who would much rather have the $7,101,927 in live tournament results (and wealth) of Darren Elias.
At the end of the drama, one man stood alone as the winner, with Darren Elias winning his second Super MILLION$ title in stunning fashion. The $10,300-entry event always has a good turn-out, but. Darren Elias has started 2021 like a house on fire by taking down the first GGPoker Super MILLON$ event of the year. First place in this $10,300 buy-in high stakes spectacular weighed in at an.
So much so that Soroka attempted to rob Elias' home in New Jersey.
That's what police in Medford Township are saying after Soroka, 24, allegedly broke into the house and held a gun on Elias' 19-year-old babysitter as he searched the home for money and things of value. Elias and his wife weren't home at the time.
The teen-aged babysitter was eventually locked in the bathroom and showed some real moxie by escaping out of a window and calling the cops from a neighbor's house. By that time, Soroka had fled, but was later arrested on a slew of charges that may keep him away from the low buy-in East Coast poker tournaments that he's been known to frequent.
Soroka's last cash recorded by the Hendon Mob was a 2nd place finish at the $300 buy-in October Monster Stacks in 2018 at the Borgata for $5,748. Four months earlier, he notched the largest score of his career after winning a $200 + $30 event at the Parx Casino for $7,514.
If he has any of that prize money left, it may be headed for the pockets of defense attorneys who have to contend with charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, and making terroristic threats.
Thankfully, the babysitter and Elias' two-year-old weren't harmed in the ordeal. It's not known what was taken in the robbery attempt, but Elias told reporters that he's quite sure that Soroka knew of his success at the poker table and that this incident wasn't the first time he'd been targeted.
